Human Rights Defender Initiates Investigation into Closure of Maralik Maternity Hospital
The Human Rights Defender has launched an investigation regarding the cessation of funding for maternity services in Maralik. Specifically, the office of the Human Rights Defender has received reports indicating that residents of Maralik and surrounding villages are protesting the closure of the maternity hospital by blocking the Yerevan-Gyumri highway in the Maralik area.
The complaints have been examined, including concerns that the closure of the maternity hospital will hinder access to medical care. The Human Rights Defender discussed the issue this morning with the Minister of Health and the Governor of Shirak Province. In light of the residents' grievances, a written inquiry has been sent to the Ministry of Health.
