Details Emerge on Military Commissariat Employee Demanding Bribe; Arrest Made

On December 20, based on information received at the Yerevan Police Department, operations were launched resulting in a report concerning a corruption-related crime in the Main Department for the Fight Against Organized Crime.

Following the report, the officers of the Department for Combating Corruption and Economic Crimes obtained substantial evidence indicating that an official from the Nor Nork Military Commissariat demanded a bribe of $1,500 from the parent of a conscript. The bribe was to facilitate the conscript's medical commission process for final exemption from mandatory military service without obstacles and in a timely manner. The official claimed that $1,000 of the bribe would be transferred to the members of the medical commission, and he would keep $500 for himself.

On December 28, the military commissariat employee was caught after receiving $1,000 in his office and was subsequently taken into custody by the Main Department of the Police. During the search of the office, the money was discovered. A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and the military commissariat employee has been arrested. An investigation is underway.
