‘Zhamanak’: Batumi Port Up for Sale at $600 Million. Will Armenia Buy It?
‘Zhamanak’ newspaper reports that the authorities of Georgia have put the Batumi port up for sale. The sale price is set at $600 million.
Various Armenian circles are attempting to organize fundraising efforts in order to purchase the port, thereby ensuring unhindered transportation of goods to Armenia. The idea of creating a joint-stock company is being discussed, which could also include businesspeople from the diaspora. However, for this initiative to succeed, it is necessary for someone to invest a significant amount of initial capital, which is currently unavailable.
