The Decision to Pursue Criminal Charges Against Serzh Sargsyan to Be Challenged in Court
The issue of terminating the criminal prosecution against the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, based on functional immunity grounds, will soon be raised in court.
This was stated in an interview with NEWS.am by Sargsyan's lawyer, Amram Makinyan. It is noteworthy that the lawyer had also appealed to the General Prosecutor's Office regarding the same issue, but this was rejected.
It should be mentioned that Serzh Sargsyan has been charged under the first part of the third section of Article 38-179 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. According to the preliminary investigation body, while holding the presidential office, he used his official position to organize the embezzlement of a particularly large amount of money, specifically 489,160,310 Armenian drams, through wasteful means by a group of officials in 2013.
A preventive measure selected for the third President is a signature not to leave.
