Minister personally attends to case of child infected with HIV
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia has confirmed a case of a child infected with HIV, stating that the treatment for the infected child is under the direct supervision of the Minister of Health. This was reported to Armenpress by the public relations department of the Ministry of Health.
Concerning the publication titled "Is it true that AIDS has been detected in a young child who was infected in the hospital?", the ministry informed that a number of steps have been taken regarding the case. As a result of a double examination of the child, HIV infection has been detected. A decision was made to conduct repeat blood tests using several methods to confirm the diagnosis. Unfortunately, the diagnosis has been confirmed.
Upon the instruction of the Minister of Health, Arsen Torosyan, a consultation has been organized involving leading specialists, including those arriving from abroad, to assist in the management of the disease and medication treatment. At this moment, positive progress is observed in the child's condition. Specialists from the Republican Center for the Prevention of AIDS of the Ministry of Health have initiated antiretroviral treatment, which has resulted in satisfactory outcomes being recorded.
The treatment process for the child is directly monitored by the Minister of Health. Regarding the source of the infection or the identification of the causes, it has been informed that a criminal case has been initiated, which is currently in the investigative phase. Simultaneously, the ministry is conducting an epidemiological investigation to identify possible sources of transmission of the infection and to implement appropriate measures.
