Syrian Army Moves Towards Kobani, 150 Km from Aleppo
Syrian soldiers are moving towards the border city of Kobani, located 150 km from Aleppo on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River. According to TASS, citing Arab sources, army units will be deployed near the Turkish border and will maintain control over a section of the strategically important Aleppo-Hasakah highway as part of an agreement between Damascus and the Kurdish administration.
The military convoy is heading to Kobani from Manbij (85 km from Aleppo), where the Syrian flag was raised today following the withdrawal of American troops from the city.
On Monday, government forces occupied positions around Manbij, located along the frontline with Syrian opposition forces. In Kobani, Kurdish militias achieved their first victory against the Islamic State terrorist group back in January 2015.
