Charges Filed Against Ijevan Community Mayor

In the course of the criminal case being investigated by the Tavush Regional Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee, several circumstances regarding the apparent abuses in the Ijevan City Hall have been uncovered. Charges have been filed against the community leader and the director of a company budgetary institution.

According to the obtained information, starting from 2011, the mayor of Ijevan, having appointed his friend's wife as the director of the company budgetary institution in 2016, used his official position contrary to the interests of the service, allowing her to be absent from work and not fulfill her work obligations from October 1, 2017, to October 1, 2018, since she moved to Yerevan in 2017.

As a result, the director of the company budgetary institution, by not appearing at work and failing to fulfill work obligations, embezzled significant amounts designated for the director’s salary from the financial resources allocated to the company by the Ijevan City Hall, causing substantial damage to the Ijevan administration.

Furthermore, the director of the company budgetary institution, who had the authority to apply disciplinary measures against an employee, to dismiss them, as well as terminate the employment contract with an employee failing to fulfill their obligations, instructed that a journalist working in the company be calculated and paid the total amount of the journalist's salary for the specified period, despite their absence from work from 2016 to 2018.

Based on sufficient evidence, the mayor of Ijevan has been charged under the first part of Article 308 of the RA Criminal Code. The director of the company budgetary institution has been charged under points 1 and 3 of the second part of Article 179 of the RA Criminal Code (in two episodes). A measure of restraint has been selected for them in the form of a signature not to leave.
