A Man Dies from Lightning Strike in Shirak Province

A tragic incident involving lightning has been reported in the village of Gusana village in Shirak province. The event occurred yesterday evening around 5:00 PM.

Two local residents, 65-year-old Vanik Melkonyan and Gevorg Sahakyan, were grazing their livestock in an area known as the quarries on the outskirts of the village. According to reports from shantnews.am, they sought shelter from the lightning and rain in an abandoned former substation, where they were standing near the entrance when a strong lightning strike hit.

The powerful jolt sent Gevorg Sahakyan into the field, while his companion, Vanik Melkonyan, remained inside the substation, where he tragically lost his life.

Gevorg Sahakyan managed to call for help from the villagers, who transported him to the Gyumri Medical Center. Doctors have assessed his condition as stable, noting injuries to his left leg and abdomen, but no internal bleeding was detected during medical examinations.
