2.8 million hectares burned: Smoke from Siberian wildfires reaches the US and Canada

Smoke from Siberian forest fires has reached parts of Alaska and the western coast of Canada. NASA announced this, referencing satellite data.

According to Colin Seftor, an atmospheric researcher at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, the smoke has now reached Canadian Vancouver and American Seattle. A portion has also spread to the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean, as reported by tjournal.ru.

Scientists note that the air pollution in the region is also influenced by fires in Canada, where forests are also burning.

The Russian space agency Roscosmos is monitoring the fires and has relayed information about the situation over an area of 2 square kilometers. In Siberia, the area affected by forest fires exceeds 2.8 million hectares. Active firefighting efforts are underway over 170,000 hectares, mainly in the Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk regions.

According to the Russian Ministry of Nature, the primary cause of fires in Siberian forests is a natural factor known as 'dry thunderstorms.'
