Fire Truck Rolled 40 Meters into a Ravine While Responding to Emergency at Tumanyan Station

On July 29, at 04:00, the '911' emergency service received a report of a fire near the Tumanyan station involving a freight train consisting of tanks loaded with fuel. Responding firefighters discovered that seven carriages, each with a capacity of 55 tons of gasoline, were ablaze while en route from Bagratashen to Gyumri.

The freight train consisted of 29 carriages in total, of which 7 were loaded with gasoline, 10 with mineral oil, 4 with wheat, and one with aluminum construction materials. Amid challenging nighttime conditions and disregarding the risk of explosion, the firefighters managed to contain the fire by 06:31.

Given the severity of the blaze, nine firefighting teams consisting of 25 firefighters participated in the extinguishing efforts. However, on the 10th kilometer of the Vanadzor-Alaverdi highway, a fire truck responding to the emergency veered off the traffic lane and rolled 40 meters down a ravine. Firefighters A.S. (born in 1986) and S.A. (born in 1981) were hospitalized at the Vanadzor Medical Center, and their health condition is assessed as satisfactory.

Also involved in the firefighting efforts were one water truck from Veolia Water LLC’s Alaverdi sector and one water truck from the municipal operations of Alaverdi city. The fire was completely extinguished by 10:10, and three firefighting teams remain on standby.
