Major and Tragic Car Accident in Gegharkunik Province: A Passenger Gazelle and a Truck Loaded with Stones Collide, Resulting in 1 Fatality and 1 Injured

On July 16, a major and tragic car accident occurred in Gegharkunik Province. Around 02:00, on the 24.9 km stretch of the Sevan-Martuni-Gegham road, a collision took place between a Gaz 2705-222 passenger vehicle, driven by 43-year-old Armen Manukyan from the village of Vanevan in Gegharkunik Province, bearing the license plate 36 AP 564, and a ZIL MMZ 555 truck, licensed 04 TL 437, driven by 24-year-old Aznaur Khachatryan from the city of Gavar.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, Armen Manukyan died on the spot, while Aznaur Khachatryan was taken to the Gavar Medical Center with bodily injuries.

The photojournalist reports that as a result of the collision, the ZIL truck, which was loaded with stones, overturned, while the Gazelle was rendered into metal scrap. Operational staff from Gavar’s road maintenance department arrived promptly at the scene, clearing the spilled stones and the Gazelle from the area, making the road passable shortly thereafter.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident.
