Sick Animal Meat Found on Sale in Gyumri
The Food Safety Inspection Body has temporarily suspended the sale of meat in the area known as the Lachin Corridor in Gyumri. This decision was made this morning following an inspection conducted by the head of the inspection body and inspectors at the market.
During the inspections, it was revealed that all norms for the sale and preservation of meat products were violated in this part of the Gyumri market. The meat was found on sales counters without refrigeration, and veterinary certificates were absent. The head of the Food Safety Inspection Body determined through a visual examination that in some sales points, meat from dead or sick animals was being sold.
“I suspect that this animal was suffering from at least intractable diseases, if not leptospirosis. It must have died before being slaughtered. As a veterinarian by profession, I can easily tell from the size of the ribs and the color of the meat. This is not cow meat; it is from a younger animal. The problem is not the age of the animal, but that it was slaughtered in a state of malaise. The situation is truly horrifying. Under these conditions, nothing should be done because they lead to various types of diseases,” stated Georgi Avetisyan, the head of the Food Safety Inspection Body, in an interview with media outlets.
