Has Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan Been Questioned? Responses from the Head of the Anti-Corruption Committee

On July 1, journalists asked Head of the Anti-Corruption Committee Sasun Khachatryan whether it's true that Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan has been questioned in connection with the March 1 criminal case. "Today, we are not discussing the events of March 1; today is a holiday," he replied.

When asked how he would react if he and others were not allowed to enter the Anti-Corruption Committee building and work, he responded, "The activities of law enforcement agencies are characterized by the fact that in many cases, one side is always dissatisfied. There are citizens who come and obstruct the entrance. I cannot say whether this is normal or not, but such things happen. People express their indignation and opinions. If it is permissible for a public official to do only what is provided by law, for a citizen, everything that is not prohibited by law is permissible."

In response to rumors about the dissolution of the Anti-Corruption Committee, Khachatryan noted, "The anti-corruption strategy has already been published on the e-draft website. This draft proposes the creation of a new anti-corruption body, which implies the dissolution of the Anti-Corruption Committee, but that is still just a draft; there is no specific law currently in circulation, we will live and see." In response to whether it is possible he might resign from his position, he said, "I do not decide that. It is not appropriate for me to talk about such things now."
