Government Proposes to Reduce Gas Tariff, While Gazprom Seeks Increase
The government, along with the Public Services Regulatory Commission and Gazprom, is currently in the final stages of negotiations. This was reported by the Office of Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan in response to a written inquiry from Tert.am.
"Negotiations are ongoing regarding the approaches for reducing the tariff from the government and the Public Services Regulatory Commission, while Gazprom is advocating for an increase. Nevertheless, both sides aim to balance primarily the interests of consumers with the principles of necessary minimum investments for safe servicing and operation, as well as reasonable profitability," the Deputy Prime Minister's office stated in its response.
In answer to Tert.am's question about whether changes to the gas tariff are expected, they mentioned that a response to the question would be possible after summarizing the results of the negotiations.
Earlier, the Public Relations and Media Department of Gazprom Armenia had informed Tert.am that, according to their information, negotiations regarding the gas tariff are in the final stages, and soon Gazprom Armenia will announce its position on the matter.
Since January 1, 2019, the Russian side increased the price of gas supplied to Armenia from $150 to $165, but the Armenian government announced that consumers would pay the old price for it. Negotiations between the government and Gazprom began on January 8.
