Naira Zohrabyan Asks the Chief Prosecutor to Change the Detention Measure of Gyumri School No. 27 Principal

Dear Chief Prosecutor, let us take this step together. This was written by NA member Naira Zohrabyan on her Facebook page, addressing the Chief Prosecutor of Armenia, Artur Davtyan.

She specifically noted, “Mr. Prosecutor, there would be no need for me to address you publicly if the matter did not pertain to the fate of a one-year-old child. Recently, the principal of Gyumri's School No. 27, Karine Lalazaryan, was arrested on suspicion of bribery, and the detention measure chosen against her is incarceration. Respecting the presumption of innocence, I do not wish to discuss whether the school principal is guilty or not. This is solely a matter for the law enforcement system, and I am confident that the case will be examined impartially.”

“My request to you, as the Chief Prosecutor of the republic, is different. For decades, Karine Lalazaryan was unable to have children, and only a year ago she became a mother. Her one-year-old son is currently breastfeeding. Meanwhile, the mother is in a correctional facility, with all visits and even phone calls prohibited. The one-year-old child is in a state of stress, and I fear for the child’s health.”

“Mr. Prosecutor, I believe that by changing Karine Lalazaryan's detention measure and allowing her to be next to her child, we will not in any way jeopardize the fair investigation of the case. I have spoken with Karine’s relatives, and they assured me that there would be no obstacle to a proper examination of the case.”

“Let us take this humanitarian step together, so that the mother can be next to her one-year-old son and also fulfill her obligations before the law.”
