Unfortunately, the UN has played no role in the implementation of four Security Council resolutions between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev while speaking at the summit of member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

“Just over a year ago, Azerbaijan and Armenia ended a conflict that lasted more than 30 years by drafting the text of a peace agreement. This transformed the South Caucasus region, which was previously an area of protracted conflicts, into a zone of peace. The four resolutions of the UN Security Council that were adopted in 1993 were implemented 30 years later—three years ago. But, unfortunately, the UN played no role in the implementation of these resolutions. Azerbaijan itself has fully restored its sovereignty,” Aliyev noted.

Aliyev remarked that the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions within tight timelines would enhance the UN's credibility and the role of the organization in international relations. “The implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions within tight timelines requires the development of appropriate mechanisms. If this is done, it will contribute to the enhancement of the UN's credibility and the role of the organization in international relations,” the Azerbaijani president stated.
