Data of 678,000 Taxpayers Stolen in Cyberattack in France

Data of physical and legal persons using the French tax service have been stolen due to a cyberattack, reported the country's Ministry of Finance. This information was obtained from Reuters.

According to the ministry's statement, on Wednesday, a "malicious actor" announced that they had breached the system of the Directorate General of Public Finances of France at the end of June.

The investigation has confirmed the fact of the cyberattack, during which taxpayer data was viewed and exported. Further investigation is being conducted to determine exactly what data has leaked and how many taxpayers have been affected. The ministry announced that the further results of the investigation will be published.

"Affected users will be individually informed about which of their data may have been viewed or exported, and if necessary, will receive information on precautionary measures to take," the statement said.

Later on Friday, the French Ministry of Finance disclosed that the cyberattack resulted in the theft of data belonging to 678,000 users.
