Murder Attempts Decrease in Yerevan: Arpine Sargsyan Presents Figures

Under the leadership of Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan, a report has been compiled on the activities of the Criminal Police Department of Yerevan, community police divisions in the capital, the Yerevan Police Battalion, and the Yerevan Guard for the first half of 2026. Present at the meeting were Acting Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Police Chief Kamo Tsutsulyan, along with representatives from the ministry and police leadership.

The head of the Yerevan Criminal Police Department reported that during the reporting period, 1833 crimes were registered by the department, which is about 20.9% less compared to the same period last year. Serious and particularly serious crimes have decreased. Crimes against individuals have decreased by 39.3%, crimes against property by 23.5%, and crimes against economic activity by 41.3%. Meanwhile, crimes against state authority, service, and order have increased by 81.5%. Attempts of murder have decreased by 7.7%, and crimes committed with firearms have decreased by 18.2%. Cases of residential burglary and fraud have also decreased.

In contrast, crimes against public safety, public order, and citizen health have increased, mainly due to the detection of instances of driving without a license by patrol officers. The Shengavit division of the community police registered 1184 crimes, which is a 3.2% increase compared to the same period last year. Crimes against property have decreased by 15.3%, and those against state authority, service, and order have decreased by 22.3%. Family violence and crimes committed by minors have increased.

The Nubarashen division recorded 128 crimes, up from 50 the previous year. Crimes against individuals and property have decreased, with a detection rate of 81.3%. The Erebuni division of community police recorded 817 crimes, which is an increase of 21% compared to last year. Crimes against public safety, order, and citizens' health increased by 88.5%, while crimes against individuals decreased by 22.6% and those against property by 17.8%.

The Central division of community police registered 1553 crimes, which is 44.4% less than the previous year. Crimes against individuals decreased by 78.7%, those against property by 50.6%, and crimes against economic activity by 49.2%. The Marash division registered 357 crimes, a 38.9% increase over last year. Crimes against state authority, service, and order increased by 81.5%. Family violence and crimes committed by minors, as well as against minors, have also risen.

The Arabkir division recorded 968 crimes, with 605 or 62.5% of them solved. Crimes against property and state authority have decreased, while family violence cases have increased. The Malatia division reported 501 crimes, a 21.9% increase from the previous year. Property crimes have risen, while those against individuals have decreased, with a detection rate of 80.4%, compared to 70.3% last year.

The Nor Nork division registered 610 crimes, with 493 (80.8%) solved. Economic and property crimes have decreased, but incidents of family violence have risen. In the Avan division, 263 crimes were registered, with a 78.3% solution rate. Crimes against individuals have decreased by 49%, against property by 37%, and against state authority by 74.2%.

The Mashtots division recorded 467 crimes with a detection rate of 69.8%. Family violence cases also rose. In the Davtashen division, crimes increased by 48.8% compared to last year, with 227 out of 302 cases solved (75.2%). Family violence cases decreased. In the Kanaker-Zeytun division, crimes against state authority decreased by 80.9%, with 446 crimes reported and 296 solved. No crimes committed by minors were reported.

The community police Metro division recorded 22 crimes, down 29% from the previous year. Crimes against property have decreased. At Zvartnots Airport, no crimes against individuals were reported. Out of 92 cases, 78 or 84.8% were solved. Crimes against property increased, while economic activity crimes decreased.

Patrol officers in the Yerevan battalion solved 1336 crimes, which is 55 more than the same period last year. A total of 129,174 reports were issued for various administrative violations. Although traffic accidents have increased in the capital, the number of casualties and injuries has decreased.

The police guard's Yerevan divisions, during the first half of the year, in addition to protecting facilities, maintaining public order, and ensuring public safety, also solved various crimes. Minister of Internal Affairs Arpine Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the work done, highlighting that despite positive trends noted in several types of crimes, the results in specific areas are not satisfactory.

The minister emphasized the need to intensify work with individuals in antagonistic relationships to prevent further crime manifestations. While noting the decrease in serious and particularly serious crimes in the capital, Minister Sargsyan expressed concern over crimes committed with firearms. She instructed that alongside detection efforts, the causes of these crimes need to be analyzed, followed by targeted and consistent preventive work.

Arpine Sargsyan underscored the operational-analytical measures necessary for the discovery and confiscation of illegal weapons and ammunition, asserting the need for continuous preventive work. She also highlighted the need to intensify the fight against criminal subcultures and strengthen collaboration between departments to prevent potential consequences.

Regarding property crimes, the minister acknowledged the trend of decreasing residential burglaries and emphasized the need to ensure the continuity of preventive work, while paying special attention to vehicle thefts. Instructions were also issued to intensify efforts against fraud, crimes against economic activity utilizing information technology, illegal drug trafficking, and specific crimes against individuals.

Particular attention was called to the moral-psychological climate within the divisions, service discipline, and proper communication with citizens, with leaders instructed to maintain ongoing supervision over these aspects. The reduction in the number of casualties and injuries from traffic accidents in Yerevan during the first half of 2026 was assessed positively, with recommendations given to continue maintaining this positive dynamic. Minister Arpine Sargsyan emphasized the necessity of active involvement from the police guard in the prevention and solution of crimes.
