Searching for Treasure, They Found a Grenade: Children Discover WWII Explosive
In the town of Dietlingen, Germany, two children discovered a World War II grenade while searching for treasure with a metal detector. The 12- and 13-year-old boys came across the wartime munitions while looking for "gems" at a camping playground in the Oldenburg district.
Immediately after their find, they left the dangerous area and reported it to emergency services. A police representative noted that the children acted completely correctly.
Explosive ordnance disposal experts who arrived at the scene confirmed that the grenade was safe for transport, and subsequently removed it from the camping site. There was no need to evacuate visitors or to destroy the munitions on site.
