Why the Implementation of New Uniforms in the Armed Forces of Armenia Is Delayed: The Ministry of Defense's Clarification
The Armed Forces of Armenia have not fully transitioned to the new uniforms, and based on the clarification from the Ministry of Defense (MoD) in response to a Sputnik Armenia inquiry, it remains unclear when the military's uniform will be completely changed.
In the photos and videos regularly published by the ministry, it is evident that the new uniforms are worn by the Chief of General Staff and other high-ranking officers, while the rest are still in the old uniforms. This transition was originally planned for 2024.
"The implementation process for the uniforms is generally conditioned by the ongoing troop testing, the evaluation of their layouts (designs), as well as the study of technical specifications. Therefore, the trial imported uniforms have been allocated to various units of the Armed Forces of Armenia, including conscripts and the senior command staff," the MoD stated.
The ministry assured that the process of providing the entire military personnel with the new uniforms is ongoing, and they will inform about the timelines for the full deployment of the new specimens when the information is final and clear.
It is worth recalling that back in 2023, Defense Minister Suren Papikyan announced in parliament that the process for changing the uniforms has been initiated, and work is underway with international partners. He also stated that there is a goal to complete the implementation of the new military uniforms that comply with NATO standards by the end of 2024.
