Iran-US Tension Will Not Affect TRIPP, Says Khandanyan on Armenia-Iran Understanding
There is an understanding regarding the TRIPP project between Armenia and Iran, and the existing tension in Iran-US relations, according to the ruling party MP Sargis Khandanyan, will not hinder the implementation of the project.
Khandanyan stated during a conversation with reporters at the National Assembly that it is in Armenia's interest to establish peace in the region as quickly as possible. “There is an understanding regarding TRIPP between Armenia and Iran, and I don’t believe that anyone should be concerned that the tense relations between Iran and the US could affect the implementation of this project,” the MP said.
“Regarding Iran-US relations, of course, it is our interest that peace is established as soon as possible, and we were greatly encouraged by the negotiations and agreements that took place a few months ago between Iran and the United States, and it seemed that a peace plan was taking shape. Let us hope that this plan will be realized,” Khandanyan noted.
Referring to the construction of the railway planned within the framework of TRIPP, the MP indicated that its implementation does not depend on Iran and the US relations. “The railway issue is on the agenda. Currently, the terrain is being studied for its feasibility, and when the studies and technical inspections are completed, construction will begin. I do not see a political obstacle here,” he stated.
According to Khandanyan, necessary studies and technical inspections are currently underway, after which it is planned to move to the construction phase of the railway.
