The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has released data on global food prices for July 2026. Overall, the FAO food price index stood at 131.1 points in July, increasing by 0.6% compared to June and 1% compared to July 2025.

The most notable changes are as follows:

  • Wheat — +5.8%
Global wheat prices surged sharply. The FAO links this increase to ongoing disruptions in export flows from the Black Sea region and concerns over reduced yields due to hot weather in several major producing countries.
  • Corn — +3.6%
The price rise has been bolstered by concerns about hot and dry weather in some regions of the United States, as well as the impact of energy markets amid geopolitical tensions.
  • Vegetable Oils — +2%
The vegetable oil price index has reached its highest level since June 2022. Notably, international prices for palm oil and soybean oil have risen, while prices for sunflower and canola oil have decreased.
  • Sugar — +5.6%
Global sugar prices saw a significant increase in July. One of the reasons is the possible impact of hot and dry weather on crops in the European Union. Concerns about weather conditions in major Asian producing countries also contributed to this rise.
  • Meat — -2.8%
The meat price index has decreased by 2.8% from the record level reached in June. This marks the first monthly decline in 2026.
  • Poultry — decrease
International poultry prices have generally declined due to increased available supplies for export from Brazil.
  • Pork — decrease
Pork prices have also fallen due to an increase in supply in the European Union and weakening global demand.
  • Beef — decrease
Global beef prices have decreased amid weakening demand for imports from Asia.
  • Lamb — record high
In contrast to other meat types, lamb prices have risen to a new record level. The FAO attributes this to limitations in available supplies for export from Oceania.
  • Dairy Products — -0.7%
The dairy price index has decreased by 0.7% in July. Prices for whole and skim milk powder, as well as butter, have declined.
  • Cheese — increase
Cheese prices in the international market have risen for the first time in a year, driven by seasonal supply limitations in the European Union.
  • Cereal Crops — +3.4%
The overall price index for cereal crops increased by 3.4% compared to June and by 6.9% compared to July 2025.

Thus, in July, the most significant increases on the international market were observed in wheat (+5.8%) and sugar (+5.6%) prices. Meanwhile, the overall price indices for meat and dairy products have decreased.
