Criminal Proceedings Against Narek Karapetyan
According to the report received from the National Police to the Investigative Committee of Armenia's Yerevan Investigative Department, on June 7, 2026, during the regular parliamentary elections, Narek Karapetyan, a candidate for MP from the "Strong Armenia" alliance, deliberately concealed information regarding possessing or having possessed foreign citizenship. This was done despite being warned about the responsibility stipulated by law for providing false information.
Karapetyan submitted a falsified application to the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, claiming that he was not a citizen of another state, thereby concealing information that could hinder his acquisition of a public official status due to his foreign citizenship.
This information has been reported by the Investigative Committee. “Based on the report, a criminal case has been initiated under the first part of Article 449 of the Criminal Code (concealing information that hinders the acquisition or retention of a public official status). An investigation is underway,” stated the press release.
