Andranik Kocharyan Apologizes
Andranik Kocharyan, the chairman of the National Assembly's Defense and Security Committee, has issued an apology regarding his earlier comments on his elder son's military service. In a Facebook post, he stated, "During a briefing on April 6, in response to a journalist's question about my elder son not serving in the armed forces, I intended to highlight how important education and scientific activity are valued in the legislation of the Republic of Armenia. Those who are willing to serve the state with their scientific potential are provided with such opportunities."
Kocharyan explained, "My elder son has completed all necessary educational degrees and is engaged in science, while my younger son has served in the Armed Forces of Armenia and participated in the 44-day war. I regret that my response has caused disputes and controversies, for which I apologize."
It is important to note that during the press briefing yesterday, when asked why his son did not serve, Kocharyan had remarked, "My son is a very high-caliber individual; if you can measure his knowledge, you wouldn't serve either."
