China Secretly Expands Its Nuclear Arsenal, CNN Reports
China has been developing its nuclear infrastructure in Sichuan province in recent years, according to an analysis by CNN that references satellite images and local government documents.
According to the source, back in 2022, three residents of Sichuan lodged complaints about land seizures and resettlements but were told that the process was related to "state secrets." Three years later, the settlement has been completely demolished, and new buildings have been constructed in the same area, which CNN states are connected to the operations of significant nuclear production facilities.
Specifically mentioned is the 906 facility near the Tungzjiang River, where a large reinforced dome has been built in a short time. Experts estimate that the radiation monitoring and ventilation systems present there may indicate work with high radioactive materials. The area also shows signs of heightened security and underground tunnels.
CNN links these developments to statements from the U.S. administration regarding the modernization of China’s nuclear arsenal. It also notes that Washington views China as a country developing next-generation nuclear technologies, while Beijing denies the allegations and reaffirms its policy of no-first-use of nuclear weapons and maintaining a testing moratorium.
