Maduro Files Request with US Court
The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has approached a US court requesting the cessation of criminal prosecution against him. The Venezuelan president has filed a complaint alleging that the US government has violated his constitutional rights.
This was reported by AP. The report mentions that the United States has blocked Venezuelan funds intended to cover Maduro's legal expenses. “Maduro, as the head of the Venezuelan state, has the right to have his legal expenses funded by the Venezuelan government,” wrote his attorney.
Included in the court submissions was a signed statement by Maduro indicating that he cannot afford to pay for his own legal defense.
It should be noted that on January 3, it became known that the US conducted an airstrike on the capital of Venezuela, Caracas, and American military personnel arrested the country's leader Nicolás Rodriguez and his wife. In the US, Maduro has been charged with “drug terrorism” and cocaine smuggling. In court, Maduro and Flores denied all the charges presented against them.
