Socialist Segura Leads in Portugal's Elections
In the second round of the presidential elections in Portugal, the leading candidate is António José Segura from the Socialist Party. According to the country's Ministry of Internal Administrative Affairs, with 99.2% of the ballots counted, he has received 66.82% of the votes. His competitor, André Ventura, has garnered 33.18% of the votes. The voter turnout for the elections stands at 50.11%. The final results of the elections will be announced after all verification and confirmation procedures are completed.
According to Reuters, if Segura wins, he could become the first Socialist president of Portugal in the last 20 years. The presidency has been held by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa since 2016, who was re-elected in 2021 for a second term.
