Military Leaders in External Negotiations: Trump Has New Plans – Associated Press
US President Donald Trump is adopting an unconventional approach in ongoing negotiations concerning Ukraine and Iran, involving military leaders in the process. This is reported by the Associated Press, noting that the White House has partially deviated from traditional diplomatic mechanisms.
According to the publication, US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll participated in discussions regarding Ukraine. Meanwhile, in talks with Iran, held in Oman, the American side was represented by Admiral Brad Cooper, the head of the US Central Command.
The coordination of negotiations in both directions has been entrusted to the president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Stephen Witkoff. They are responsible for the organization of communications and inter-agency coordination.
Analysts suggest that the involvement of senior military officials may be due to their practical experience and international connections, as well as being perceived as a political signal, indicating the US's readiness to employ a tougher toolkit if necessary.
