Illegal birds including endangered species transferred to Yerevan Zoo
In advance of the COP17 conference, the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body is diligently continuing the process of verifying the storage conditions and legal foundations of wild animals held in captivity for the purpose of biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental development. This information is reported by the Inspection Body.
On February 3, officials from the inspection body and the Yerevan Zoo took seven wild animals from the 'Wonderful Garden' restaurant complex in the Ararat region due to lack of authorization. Among them were bird species listed in the Red Book of Armenia: specifically, one owl, two white-tailed eagles (Red Book of Armenia), two elegant cranes (Red Book of Armenia), one Alexandrine parakeet, and one necked parakeet.
The animals have been transferred to the Yerevan Zoo, where they will undergo medical examination and receive professional care.
