Russia's Foreign Ministry on Armenia: Russia Will Closely Monitor Regional Developments
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated that diversifying Armenia's foreign relations, in Moscow's view, does not imply a reduction in cooperation with traditional partners. He emphasized that Russia operates under the approach that Yerevan's multi-faceted foreign policy development does not signify a change in alignment or a rejection of established allied relations.
Lavrov noted that the Russian side openly and directly presents its assessments regarding the deepening relationship between Armenia and the European Union. According to him, Moscow is closely monitoring these processes and conveys its stance to Armenian partners.
The Russian Foreign Minister believes that countries in the South Caucasus, including Armenia, understand that the favorable initiatives declared by Brussels and Washington may be backed by political calculations. He highlighted that the region is viewed by certain Western centers as a potential area of influence.
According to Lavrov, the South Caucasus, with which Russia has historical and close ties, is perceived by some forces as a potential tool for exerting pressure aimed at causing harm to Moscow. The Russian Foreign Ministry's varied report indicates that Russia will continue to pay close attention to developments in the region.
