Slovenia to Send Soldiers to Greenland

Slovenia will send two soldiers to Greenland to participate in exercises led by Denmark, as reported by the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), citing the country's Ministry of Defense.

On Wednesday, the Danish Armed Forces announced that they would strengthen their military presence in Greenland in close cooperation with NATO allies and activate training activities on the island. Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, and Germany have already announced that they will send troops to Denmark’s autonomous territory as part of Operation ‘Arctic Shield’.

“The government has decided to send two members of the Slovenian Armed Forces to Greenland to participate in the planning and execution of the international exercises led by Denmark under 'Arctic Shield',” the agency stated.

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. However, former U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that the island should become part of the United States. The authorities of Denmark and Greenland have warned Washington against the annexation of the island, emphasizing their expectation for respect for their territorial integrity.
