India Purchases Energy Resources Based on National Interests: Foreign Ministry on Oil Imports from Russia

India is purchasing energy resources based on its national interests and the current situation in the global oil market. This was stated by the spokesperson of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, during a press briefing when asked whether the Indian government plans to halt oil imports from Russia.

“We consistently follow the policy we have clarified multiple times. Energy supplies depend on the dynamics of the global market, as well as the necessity to provide affordable energy to 1.4 billion people,” he said.

The diplomat also added that Indian private companies make decisions regarding oil supplies based on commercial offers, which are also influenced by the dynamics of the global oil market.

It is also noted that the U.S. has imposed an additional 25% tariff on New Delhi for purchasing Russian energy products, and tariffs on Indian goods and services have increased to 50%. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has called these actions unfair.
