Russian Foreign Ministry Issues Statement
Russia is carefully examining the decision of Australia's court, which rejected Russia's rights to a plot of land for the construction of a new embassy building in Canberra, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Ministry noted that on November 12, after more than two years of litigation concerning Russia's claim, the High Court of Australia upheld the 2023 Internal Affairs Act.
"Subsequently, in 2023, following previous attempts by local authorities to terminate the lease agreement for the land parcel for Russia's new embassy complex in the Yarralumla area of Canberra, which was deemed illegal by the Australian Federal Court, the Australian Parliament urgently adopted the aforementioned law on June 15, 2023," the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled.
The Ministry emphasized that Australian officials falsely claimed that the decision was made due to "national security concerns" and was adopted based on the advice of intelligence agencies.
