Vardan Ghukasyan: Those Whom the People Support Are Being Targeted
I have not seen a country that causes so much distress to its people. This was stated by the Mayor of Gyumri, Vardan Ghukasyan, in a conversation with journalists before his son's court hearing.
“What is the reason that so many cases are being brought against this people? Ninety-nine percent of former mayors are on trial. The healthy forces in the country are being stoned, and those whom the people support are being systematically targeted,” Ghukasyan said.
Referring to his son's case, Ghukasyan mentioned that when his son went to the Bishop's court, he said, 'They will definitely imprison him.' “There is no hope from the court, but I firmly believe in God's judgment. I know one thing: every judge, every representative of the judicial sphere, if they receive instructions, they should say, 'This is not something we should do, how should we proceed?' Everything will change. Then, for your salary, you are demolishing people’s homes; don’t you fear God? Keep the law, be guided by the truth,” he noted.
When asked if he fears that such actions will force him to resign, Ghukasyan replied, “Then I am not that type; I know enough, I am not one to be afraid. Whatever they want to do, it takes a man to stand before God; I am ready for anything for my homeland.”
