UN Secretary-General and Pope Francis Criticize Israel's Attack on Qatar's Capital
World leaders have swiftly responded to Israel's strikes on the Qatari capital, Doha, which targeted senior Hamas officials, according to Reuters.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the Israeli strikes, describing them as a “gross violation” of Qatar's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He noted that Qatar plays a significantly positive role in efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of all hostages held by Hamas.
“All parties must work towards achieving a permanent ceasefire, rather than undermining it,” Guterres told reporters.
For his part, Pope Francis expressed concern about the repercussions of Israel's strikes on Qatar. “Now there is really serious news. Israel's attack in Qatar targets some of Hamas's leaders. The entire situation is very serious,” the Pope stated.
