Emmanuel Macron on Trump-Putin Meeting
French President Emmanuel Macron spoke on the X social network about negotiations with U.S., Ukrainian, and European leaders following the meeting between Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
“We agree that supporting Ukraine and exerting pressure on Russia is vital as long as its aggressive war continues and as long as firm and stable peace, based on respect for Ukraine’s rights, is not established. Any lasting peace must be accompanied by unwavering security guarantees,” Macron stated.
The French president welcomed the United States' willingness to contribute to this effort. “We will work towards that with them and our partners in the ‘coalition of willing,’ with whom we will soon meet again to achieve specific progress. It is also important to draw lessons from the experiences of the last 30 years, in particular the entrenched trend of Russia failing to meet its obligations. We will continue to closely cooperate with the U.S. President and Ukrainian President Zelensky to safeguard our interests in the spirit of unity and responsibility. France remains alongside Ukraine,” he concluded.
