No Foreign Troops Will Be Deployed Along Armenia and Azerbaijan Borders: Iranian Foreign Ministry

Tehran is closely monitoring the developments and does not simplify or underestimate any issues. This was stated by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, as reported by the Tasnim agency.

He emphasized that some comments are based on false information and may be aimed at deteriorating Iran's relations with the countries of the South Caucasus. Tehran believes that the issue of unblocking communications in the region should be approached carefully and tactfully.

The question of external intervention remains a red line for Tehran. “We do not consider the presence of external forces and interstate intervention as useful, and we believe that this issue will cause geopolitical complications,” Baghaei stated.

Moreover, he mentioned that the official Yerevan has assured that the reconstruction of the railroad in southern Armenia (near the border with Iran) will be carried out with the participation of Armenian companies and an American company registered under Armenian law, and no foreign troops will be deployed along the borders.

The Foreign Ministry representative also referred to Article 12 of the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, stating, “According to that article, no foreign armed forces will be deployed along the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.”

“We are very sensitive to this issue, and Armenia itself realizes the consequences of the presence of foreign armed forces,” he added.

At the end of the interview, the Foreign Ministry representative once again stressed: “We have good relations with the countries of the South Caucasus and believe that the stability and security of this region are important for us.” Baghaei added that Iran is ready to take steps to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation with regional countries and support any action that would strengthen the stability and security of the region.
