Case of Exemptions for Conscripts and Illegal Migration Sent to Court
Based on a report received from the National Security Service of Armenia, a criminal case initiated by the Anti-Corruption Committee has revealed that a resident of Yerevan organized a process to exempt several conscripts from the summer draft of 2024. For this purpose, she received various amounts of money from the parents of the conscripts under the pretext of mediation for bribery.
Specifically, the preliminary investigation established that the specified individual received amounts ranging from $2,000 to $3,000 from the parents of three conscripts for organizing the exemption process. Meanwhile, the Central Medical Commission's verification examinations recorded actual health issues that resulted in two of the conscripts being deemed unfit for compulsory military service based on a corresponding decision from the Armenian government, and they were registered in the reserve, while one was granted a deferment for a period of three years.
Additionally, the investigation uncovered cases of organizing illegal migration for profit, in preliminary agreement with other parties. It was revealed that this individual received $1,200 from the family of a relative to obtain forged documents for permission to stay in a foreign state.
During the investigation, the aforementioned individual was charged under parts 2 of Article 440 and 3 of Article 470 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Decisions have also been made to initiate public criminal prosecution against 11 other individuals. The investigation in the criminal case has been completed, and the materials of the case have been sent to the Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia with an indictment against six individuals.
