Customs Control to be Implemented for Cargo Passing from Azerbaijan to Armenia
The Head of the Armenian State Revenue Committee, Edward Hakobyan, stated during a briefing with reporters at the National Assembly that the committee will exercise its authority over the cargo passing from Azerbaijan through Armenia as it does at any border.
According to him, it is not the case that a customs authority would be unaware of the cargo being transported and would automatically release it.
“If we talk about unblocking and opening borders, we must be prepared for different scenarios. We have the appropriate equipment and tools that will allow us to adapt to any scenario and carry out our customs operations,” said the Head of the SRC.
Regarding the “facilitated procedures for cargo passing” proposed by Yerevan to Baku, Hakobyan noted that mechanisms for this have long been in place and are applied to countries with which Armenia has open borders, namely Iran and Georgia.
“We have a risk management system where certain indicators are automatically analyzed, and certain goods are sent through green corridors, while others are categorized as yellow or red. For example, a green corridor means that the cargo can cross the border without issues; there is no problem there,” Hakobyan added.
