China Creates Artificial Rain
China has intensified weather modification efforts aimed at increasing precipitation in the drought-affected northern regions of the country, where wheat harvesting is still ongoing. This was reported by Bloomberg.
According to the China Meteorological Administration, following long-awaited rains in the country's grain-producing areas last week, authorities coordinated actions to artificially enhance rainfall.
The measures are being conducted particularly in Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, and Shanxi. One method of weather modification involves the "creation" of clouds using special chemicals, which can be carried out from the ground or via planes and drones. The goal of this technology is to boost rainfall and snowfall while also reducing the risk of hail.
China claims to have the largest weather modification program in the world and has been increasing investments in this sector in recent years due to rising food security risks associated with climate change.
Additionally, by 2025, the scale of artificial precipitation generation activities is expected to grow by 20% compared to the same period in 2024. Although specific figures have not been provided, it is noted that the amount of precipitation has increased by approximately one third.
