Former Ukrainian President Sentenced to Imprisonment
The fourth president of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for inciting treason and organizing illegal transfers across the state border of Ukraine.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, referencing the Prosecutor General's Office. The statement mentions that the court has also issued a verdict against the former deputy head of the State Security Service.
“Prosecutors proved in court that on February 23, 2014, the former president of Ukraine, in conjunction with former head of the presidential security service and representatives of the Russian Federation, illegally crossed the state border of Ukraine by air and organized the transfer of at least 20 individuals from his inner circle and military personnel. They ascended into the air from the outskirts of the village of Urzuf in the Mangush district of Donetsk region on three Russian military helicopters under the control of a Russian Armed Forces pilot, heading towards Russia. Subsequently, the former president, with the support of the Russian Armed Forces, decided to leave Ukraine permanently. While located in the territory of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the Kazachya Bay of Sevastopol, he urged the soldiers of Ukraine's civil defense administration, who were ensuring his personal safety, to leave Ukraine and travel to Russia,” the statement outlines.
