Let Them Try. Alkhas Ghazaryan on Serzh Sargsyan's Statement
Every time the opposition initiates a movement, they invariably point out that the time has come, that there is little time left, and even last year they set a deadline claiming that they would give this much time. This was stated by Alkhas Ghazaryan, an MP from the My Step faction in the National Assembly, during a conversation with journalists, commenting on the statement made by former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan the day before, that the time has come to remove the current authorities.
“But still, no plans are being implemented because there is no support from the people. I believe that to initiate any movement or to formulate any plans, they should be confident that they have the support of the people. They do not have the support of the people, therefore there is nothing to worry about or think about. If they want to do anything, let them do it, we will see how things turn out,” he said.
Regarding the process of starting an impeachment, the My Step MP expressed confidence that they will not succeed either, as no one from the faction will join that initiative. “But let them try, let them be convinced once again: I rule this out because I know our team well. I would never want to even compare the My Step faction or party with any other party. This is my inner confidence,” he stated.
In response to a reminder that a few months ago two MPs left the My Step faction, Alkhas Ghazaryan said, “I reaffirm that our faction is quite cohesive and we always make unanimous, collective decisions. As for the departure of Hovik Aghazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan from the faction, you are aware of the processes that accompanied that outcome. Their departure was not at all related to our decisions. It was not the case that they hindered any decision-making; that is not why they left the faction.”
