Only 23 Dry Trees Were Cut Down in This Area: Tigran Avinyan
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, along with children, Yerevan residents, and colleagues, participated in a tree planting event today, which took place in the area adjacent to Saint Sarkis Church and the cascading section of David Bek Street in the New Norq administrative district.
After the tree planting, in response to journalists' questions regarding the recent cutting down of trees in the same area, he stated, “Only 23 dry trees were cut down in this area, which had dried due to the absence of an irrigation system.”
The mayor noted that as part of the citywide tree planting initiative, today in the lower territory of the church in the 5th district of New Norq, around 1300 trees and 200 evergreen shrubs are being planted over an area of approximately 6 hectares.
It should be mentioned that earlier, blogger Eduard Hayrumyan raised alarms and published videos and photos showing that viable trees had been cut down, with soil being filled in around the tree stumps to conceal the cutting.
