There Was a Reason I Found Myself in This Situation: Agazaryan

This was stated by MP Hovik Agazaryan during a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly on March 26, responding to information that all ruling party MPs were sent SMS messages to record their votes in favor of stripping him of his immunity.

In response to the question of whether he believes that the law enforcement system will be fair towards him, Agazaryan replied, "I can defend myself. The pressures are unjust, but I can defend myself. Of course, this is political persecution. I will state certain things in my speech; this didn’t come out of nowhere, there was some basis, some reason for me to find myself in this situation."

He emphasized that the primary reason is his rejection of Nikol Pashinyan. When asked by reporters if it would have been better not to reject Pashinyan, to give up his mandate, and to avoid this situation, Agazaryan responded, "Who would protect people like you? If I, as a member of parliament, cannot protect myself, then how will you protect yourselves tomorrow? I am a servant of the people; I have to protect myself to also protect others with my defense."
