Kostanyan on the Location of the Peace Agreement Signing
The signing of the peace agreement is crucial for the Republic of Armenia. At this moment, no particular advantage is given to any city regarding where it will be signed. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan in a conversation with journalists after a meeting of the RA government.
“The preferred scenario for the Republic of Armenia is to sign the agreement; all other issues are negotiable and secondary,” emphasized the deputy minister.
Kostanyan had difficulty commenting on why Azerbaijan is spreading misinformation about alleged shootings from the Armenian side at the border but clearly stated that these false statements do not affect the atmosphere of peace in any way.
Regarding another statement from Baku about the resettlement of Azerbaijanis in Armenia, the deputy foreign minister responded, stating, “We have repeatedly said that there is no such provision in the peace treaty and there is no such agenda for us.”
Kostanyan also addressed a journalist's question about the Azerbaijani side demanding that Armenia take measures against participants in the Artsakh wars. “Such statements are made to shadow or counteract the legal processes currently ongoing in Azerbaijan (which are hard to even call legal) regarding prisoners of war and other detained individuals. Naturally, the international community and the Republic of Armenia call on Azerbaijan to stop these practices and release our compatriots. In response, Azerbaijan makes such declarations,” said the RA Deputy Foreign Minister.
