Trump and Xi Jinping to Hold Phone Conversation
U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a phone conversation on Tuesday. This was reported by Peter Navarro, a senior advisor to the American leader on trade and manufacturing, in an online interview with the American newspaper Politico.
Navarro was asked about the potential impacts of China's retaliatory tariffs on oil, agricultural equipment, coal, and liquefied gas for American entrepreneurs. “We will see where this conversation leads today,” Navarro stated, without directly answering whether Trump might cease tariffs on China, as he did with Mexico and Canada.
Navarro was also asked if the administration is still considering imposing a 60% tariff on Chinese goods. He indicated that Washington’s leadership would adopt a “measured, research-based approach.”
