We Are Connected to the Armenian People by Historical Ties of Friendship - Putin

The leader of the Russian Federation arrived in Kyrgyzstan on Monday to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, as well as to hold a series of bilateral meetings.

“We are connected to the Armenian people by historical ties of friendship and even more than friendship. We have very deep roots in our relationships with the Armenians, and the Armenian people in general, including with Armenians in this region of the world. But it is impossible to be in both organizations at the same time,” Putin stated at a press conference summarizing his visit to Kyrgyzstan.

Meanwhile, the Armenian legislature approved a law on March 2025 regarding the initiation of the process for joining the European Union. At the same time, PM Pashinyan had previously noted that the adoption of this law does not guarantee the country’s membership in the EU, as an official application, the granting of candidate status, the consent of EU member states, and the support of the Armenian citizens will be necessary.
