Discussion on Sending 50,000 Peacekeepers to Ukraine: Politico
European allies of Ukraine are discussing the possibility of sending up to 50,000 peacekeeping forces from five or six European countries to Ukraine. This was reported by Politico, citing two European diplomats.
It was noted that these peacekeepers would maintain the demarcation line between Russia and Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.
In the context of U.S. President Donald Trump's promises to quickly end the conflict in Ukraine, even if it involves conceding territory to Russia, Europe is trying to determine what role it will play besides increasing defense spending and supplying weapons to Kyiv. One of the options being discussed is the deployment of peacekeeping forces to ensure the maintenance of any potential ceasefire.
‘This is the most important decision that Europeans must make in 2025,’ said former Austrian military strategist Franz-Stefan Gady.
