Video: Airplane Crashes in South Korea, Dozens Dead
During landing in South Korea, a passenger airplane has crashed. There were 181 people on board, including 6 crew members and 175 passengers, consisting of 173 South Korean and 2 Thai citizens. Two flight attendants have reportedly survived, as they were in the tail section of the aircraft according to the current information available.
Preliminary data suggests the tragedy was caused by a bird strike. The aircraft veered off the runway and collided with a barrier. Footage circulating on social media purportedly shows the moment the bird hit the Boeing engine.
The South Korean airline's Boeing 737-800 (737-8AS) was manufactured in August 2009, and the aircraft was considered "relatively new."
