Strong Earthquake Recorded in Armenia Last Night
On December 21, at 03:01 local time (December 20, 23:01 Greenwich Mean Time), a 4.5 magnitude earthquake was registered by the seismological network of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia. The epicenter was located 30 km south of the city of Karvachar (known as Kelbajar in Azerbaijan) at geographical coordinates of 39.83° N latitude and 46.04° E longitude, with a depth of 10 km.
The seismic intensity in the epicentral area reached 6 points on the scale. The earthquake was felt in the city of Jermuk with a magnitude of 4-5 points, in several communities of Vayots Dzor with magnitudes of 2-4 points, and in communities of Syunik province with a magnitude of 2-3 points.
